Kenny Smith’s son K.J. gets into game for North Carolina during blowout

A familiar name got into the game late in North Carolina’s victory on Sunday over Washington.

With 44.4 seconds left and the Tar Heels leading 81-56, K.J. Smith checked into the game for UNC. K.J. is the son of former North Carolina All-American point guard Kenny Smith, known by many for his successful broadcasting career.

K.J. did not record any statistics, though he did play in the final minute. He is a sophomore transfer from Pacific. Smith played high school ball at Mater Dei and Oaks Christian in Southern California before going to IMG Academy. He played in 23 games for Pacific in the 2016-17 season, sat out last year, and is able to play this season for UNC.

K.J. has scored 21 points and has seven assists this season. He has now appeared in 21 games.
