Kyle Filipowski Now 'In Good Company' Among Blue Devil Stars

Unfortunately for Duke basketball forward Kyle Filipowski, Saturday's 83-79 loss at unranked Wake Forest and his ensuing stormed-court injury prevented proper recognition of the feat he achieved during the game: joining the Blue Devils' 1,000-point club as a mere sophomore.

Filipowski finished the battle with a team-high 17 points, bumping the 20-year-old's career total to 1,000 on the dot.

As the Duke basketball program's social media team pointed out, the former five-star prep from New York is now "in good company" as one of only five Blue Devils since 2000 to reach that milestone before their second season in Durham concluded:

Here's how the others on the list stack up following their sophomore years:

Jason Williams - 1,333
Luke Kennard - 1,147
JJ Redick - 1,084
Kyle Singler - 1,060

So, figuring that four games remain on Duke's regular season slate, plus a minimum of two and maximum of nine postseason games between the ACC Tournament and Big Dance, Filipowski is certainly in range to eclipse the marks of Singler, Redick, and Kennard.

Williams' count is probably safe. After all, even if Duke plays another 13 games, Filipowski would need to average 25.6 points between those contests to surpass the 2001 national champion sophomore.

In his ACC Rookie of the Year campaign last season, Kyle Filipowski never missed a game, averaging a team-high 15.1 points.

Now, the ACC Preseason Player of the Year is leading the No. 8 Blue Devils (21-6, 12-4 ACC) with his 16.9 points per outing. Again, he's played in every contest thus far (no word yet on his injury status for Duke's next outing).
