The LSU basketball offseason began on March 19, 2024, and not even two weeks later, coach Matt McMahon and the Tigers have officially begun making moves towards the 2024-25 season. Late Friday morning, the purple and gold landed their first transfer portal commitment of the cycle, as former Kansas State guard Cam Carter will soon make his way to Baton Rouge.

The best athletes in Louisiana play for LSU and we’re once again getting an excellent example of it.

Coming out of high school as a part of the class of 2021, Donaldsonville, LA, product Cam Carter elected for something of a change of scenery, travelling east to play his freshman year at Mississippi State. However, the trip was short lived, eventually transferring to Kansas State for the following two seasons.

Now, heading into his senior and likely final season of college basketball, the talented guard is making his way back to his home state to play for coach Matt McMahon at LSU.

The 6-3 Louisiana native averaged 14.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game this season.

While he’s never exactly been viewed as a dominant force by any means, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound Carter put his name on the map as one of the most consistent overall players on a Kansas State Wildcats team that went 19-15 this season, which included a trip to the NIT.

As a junior, Carter recorded 14.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game, making an impact in just about every aspect of the game for his team. Additionally, with a three-point shooting percentage right around 31.6 percent over the course of his career, he’s shown more than enough ability to stretch the floor on offense.

Officially listed as the No. 60 overall player in the transfer portal and No. 13 among shooting guards, according to 247Sports, Carter has the potential to come in and make an immediate impact for the Tigers in 2024-25. He joins a purple and gold class of 2024 that includes four-star signees Curtis Givens III and Robert Miller.

While the transfer portal addition certainly has the ability to come in and start immediately, don’t expect the keys to be handed over right away. Among the players he’ll likely battle for a starting role include soon-to-be senior Carlos Stewart and sophomore Mike Williams III.
