Malik Hall became the 45th Spartan in Michigan State basketball history to reach the 1,000-point mark on Thursday.

Michigan State basketball got its second win a row on Thursday night, this time against Minnesota 76-66. The Spartans didn’t play their best, but one did, however.

Malik Hall had an outstanding game for MSU, finishing with a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double. He also added four assists as well, showcasing his all-around skill set in this game. The best part of his performance however was the accomplishment he reached during the game.

Malik Hall joins the 1,000-point club

Malik hit the 1,000-point mark early in the second half, but it was his bucket that followed that really stood out. I wish his actual 1,000-point basket didn’t happen, because it would’ve been awesome if it was this dunk.

Malik is the 45th Spartan to join the 1,000-point club, and the second this season as Tyson Walker also joined the club in December. I was very excited when Tyson hit this mark, but I think I’m more excited for Hall.

Hall has been through a lot in his Michigan State career. This is his fifth season and he’s been apart of some really good teams and some average teams as well. I think back to when he was a freshman and essentially won Michigan State their road game at Seton Hall. That game feels like forever ago, but it goes to show the impact he has had on the program.

Minnesota head coach Ben Johnson provided an awesome quote about Hall that sums up what he brings to this program. Johnson shared that, “He (Hall) just has a presence to him, you know, some guys when they are out there, they just have a presence and give other guys confidence, give the coaching staff confidence.”

Hall has been this type of leader for Michigan State and he continues to be to this day. He receives a lot of negativity from the fanbase sometimes, but I think it’s time we realize just how important he is to this team. Even if the stats aren’t there one game, the calmness and confidence he brings out of everyone else is just as important as any bucket he scores.
