New Michigan basketball head coach Dusty May hasn’t landed his first commitment since being hired, but after a big weekend of visits, he might be getting close, at least in the 2024 class.

The Wolverines have been projected to land transfer portal big man Vlad Goldin, a former all-conference center who played under May at FAU. Goldin was on campus this weekend for an official visit. Danny Wolf, formerly of Yale, and Trey Townsend of Oakland, a fellow transfer, joined him.

Michigan basketball projected to land a 2024 recruit

However, there was a 2024 recruit on campus for an official visit too and that was Justin Pippen, the son of former NBA legend Scottie Pippen.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound combo guard is ranked No. 103 overall according to the On3 Industry rankings. He got a crystal ball to Georgia Tech. He was also offered by Texas A&M and Stanford in February. Yet, on Monday he was projected to land with the Wolverines by Jamie Shaw of On3.com.

Michigan basketball has come on strong in this recruitment. Pippen is one of the fastest-rising talents in the entire 2024 class. He’s ranked 65th overall in the 2025 class according to 247 Sports. Out of Sierra Canyon in Chatsworth, California, he’s a smooth athlete and can shoot the ball.

Pippen is a dude who could play right away, but turn into the multi-year guy who is an All-Conference player in the Big Ten, with an NBA future.

That’s the sweet spot in college basketball — finding players not quite good enough to be one-and-done, but really close. Pippen is right there and has shown how bright his future is in the past few months.

This would be an exciting addition, plus one who can help in the 2024-25 season and beyond for Michigan basketball.
