Michigan Basketball Surges in Latest Power Rankings

Michigan basketball just keeps stacking up wins. The Wolverines picked up two more gritty victories last week, taking down No. 3 Purdue at home (75-73) on Tuesday before grinding out a three-point road win over rival Ohio State on Sunday. After getting blown out by the Boilermakers in January, Michigan flipped the script, proving they can compete with the best the league has to offer.

Now riding a six-game winning streak, Michigan is 20-5 (12-2) and sitting alone atop the Big Ten standings. The difference this season? The Wolverines have figured out how to win close games—something they struggled with last year under Juwan Howard.

People are starting to take notice. College basketball analyst Andy Katz released his updated Power 37 Rankings, and after having Michigan at No. 21 last week, he’s now bumped the Wolverines up to No. 7. Despite leading the Big Ten, Katz still has Wisconsin ranked one spot higher at No. 6, following the Badgers’ road win over Purdue on Saturday.

With just one game on the schedule this week, Michigan has another chance to keep the momentum rolling. Up next? A rivalry showdown with Michigan State on Friday night in Ann Arbor. With the way the Wolverines are playing, expect them to come out looking to make another statement.
