Michigan basketball fans have been waiting for many of Dusty May’s former players to enter the transfer portal. 7-foot-1 center Vlad Goldin finally entered the portal on Monday night, as well as the NBA draft. On Tuesday, Johnell Davis, maybe the biggest name of all the FAU players, followed suit.

Michigan target finally enters the transfer portal

Davis Moseley, a program insider for Michigan, predicted that Davis would enter the portal on Monday night and that information proved to be accurate. Moseley also reported an in-home visit by the Wolverines to see Danny Wolf, the Yale transfer.

Folks have wondered if Michigan basketball would have room for Wolf and Goldin, but they are different players. Wolf can play in the post. He can also be a stretch four type, so there’s a chance they could play together.

Yet, the Wolverines might not need Wolf if they land Goldin. Regardless of how things work out with the big guys and it feels like Michigan will get Wolf or Goldin, the Wolverines need guards. That’s where Davis comes in. He averaged over 18 points and six rebounds per game last season for FAU on his way to All-Conference honors in the American.

Davis also shot 41 percent from 3-point range and dished out 2.9 assists. You can’t make a player more perfect for Dusty May’s system and he’d be the ideal piece to add for the Wolverines. He’d accelerate the rebuild and would be a massive addition.

We’ll see if he declares for the draft like Goldin. It’s wise to do it, but the early hope is that he follows his former head coach to Michigan basketball.
