Michigan favored to land transfers plus more roster movement

Last season he averaged 12.9 points per game, which was more than double his average in 2022-23 which was 6.1 points per game. Yes, he had more opportunities but he took advantage of them. The former Michigan basketball forward knocked down 1.7 3-pointers per game. Williams shot twice as many triples last season, as he did the previous season, but improved his percentage by 12 points.

That’s incredible. It’s also why I’m not surprised to see him enter the transfer portal. He’ll find a quality team. Williams isn’t huge, but he can play the 3/4. He’s a solid rebounder and anyone who can shoot the way he does can play for an NCAA tournament team.

Williams declared for the NBA draft. But every college player should do that. You can get feedback on your professional chances for nothing. You’d be stupid not to do that. Williams will play college baskeball next season and frankly, I wish he’d be playing for Michigan basketball. He could help. But maybe he’s just ready for a change.

More transfer portal intel

As far as the transfer portal, Michigan basketball feels like the team to beat for both Danny Wolf and Johnell Davis. Louisville is making a run at Davis and according to reports, it’s likely down to the Wolverines and Cardinals. Jamie Shaw of On3.com said Michigan was the favorite for Wolf, the 7-foot transfer from Yale.

I’d be surprised if Michigan basketball missed on Davis. Louisville probably has the NIL advantage though, so that could be an early test of what Dusty May can do in the NIL department. We’ll see with Wolf too and also Connor Essegian, who is expected to meet with May next week according to Davis Moseley.

With Williams out, May has nine scholarships to fill. That’s assuming Nimari Burnett and Jace Howard return along with Will Tschetter. Durral Brooks affirmed his spot on the roster and May is targeting multiple 2024 recruits.

But Michigan basketball will have to add 5-6 transfers at minimum to field a competitive roster next season, but adding Davis, Wolf, and Essegian would be a damn good start.
