The Michigan State Spartans and legendary head coach Tom Izzo are set to begin the 2025 NCAA Tournament. As March Madness starts firing on all cylinders, Izzo is getting older and there are some who are wondering how much longer he has left on the sideline.
Izzo is currently 70 years old. However, he has not shown signs of being close to retirement.
During the 2024-25 college basketball season, Izzo helped lead Michigan State to a 27-6 record. With that impressive season, the Spartans ended up earning a No. 2 seed in the big dance.
They are set to face off against No. 15 ranked Bryant in round one of the tournament.
Ahead of the tournament this year, Izzo took some time to speak out his future retirement. He did so during an appearance on the "Up & Adams Show."
He made it clear that he doesn't feel a coach has to go out on top. Izzo plans to retire when he's ready to retire, not when the situation trends one way or another.
“I don't believe you have to retire on a high note," Izzo said.

Time has flown by for Izzo at Michigan State. He started coaching the program back in 1995-96 and has been with the Spartans throughout his entire career.
In that time period, Izzo has led Michigan State to an impressive 734-301 record, which is good enough for a 70.9% winning percentage. He also won one national championship back in 2000.
While he's discussing the idea of retirement, Izzo is still at the top of his coaching game and will lead his Spartans into battle against Bryant on Friday at 10:00 p.m. EST.
