The Duke men's basketball team is off to a 3-0 start this season, but Hall of Fame head coach Mike Krzyzewski's swan song has just potentially turned into a nightmare.
Per ESPN's Jeff Borzello, Blue Devils guard Michael Savarino -- Krzyzewski's grandson -- as well as star freshman Paolo Banchero, are facing DWI-related charges after Savarino was arrested early Sunday morning.
"According to court records obtained by The (Raleigh) News & Observer, Savarino was arrested on DWI charges and Banchero was charged with aiding and abetting DWI," Borzello wrote. "Savarino was pulled over early Sunday morning after a stop sign violation, and an ensuing breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.08. Banchero was charged and released."
Krzyzewski said the following in a statement.
"We are reviewing a legal matter involving two members of the men's basketball team. ... Any further actions as a result of this situation will ultimately be determined by the Vice President/Director of Athletics and University officials."
Banchero -- a potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft who is averaging 19.3 points and 8.7 rebounds this season -- will have his court date on Dec. 8. Savarino's court date is set for Dec. 9.
