New Michigan basketball head coach Dusty May is still finalizing his coaching staff but according to a new report from Chris Balas of The Wolverine, May will be bringing at least one coach with him from FAU.

Akeem Miskdeen and Mike Boynton are both reportedly going to join the staff. There were some rumblings that Boynton might not be confirmed (and they have to be announced officially) but Balas is reporting that Boynton is going to join the staff.

That would be huge, as we have said. Michigan basketball would then have direct ties to Oklahoma State players in the transfer portal, as well as former FAU players like Vlad Goldin.

Another assistant coach hire for Michigan basketball

The third assistant coach for now appears to be Kyle Church. There was some talk about him being the next head coach at Florida Atlantic. However, that didn’t happen, which will probably help the Wolverines land some former FAU players from the transfer portal — Johnell Davis would be nice. That also will bring Church to May’s staff. He worked under him all six seasons at Florida Atlantic.

Church also worked with May at Louisiana Tech and Florida as the director of basketball operations. May needed to have at least one trusted assistant so this makes a ton of sense. There has been talk about Rod Clark leaving Tennessee to join the Michigan staff but nothing has been confirmed yet. It sounds promising though and he would be another home-run addition.

May is working hard to bring talented players to Michigan, but he’s building an elite staff too. And that’s a good place to start.
