West Virginia basketball has added a significant piece to its 2025–26 roster as four-star point guard Amir Jenkins has reclassified and committed to the Mountaineers.
A Worcester Academy standout originally ranked No. 81 in the 2026 class, Jenkins will forgo his senior year and join West Virginia this fall under new head coach Ross Hodge.
Jenkins chose WVU over more than 20 Division I offers, including Maryland, Xavier, Creighton, Mississippi State, and Virginia Tech. He took an official visit to Morgantown at the end of June, and the connection with the coaching staff sealed the deal.
At 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds, Jenkins brings a strong blend of length, ball-handling, and scoring that earned him attention at the NBPA Top 100 Camp earlier this summer. Recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw described him as a true point guard who competes, creates, and wins.
His reclassification provides an immediate boost to West Virginia’s backcourt, which already includes North Texas transfer Jasper Floyd. Jenkins joins a freshman class that also features Jayden Forsythe, DeAndre Thomas, and M.J. Feenane, giving Hodge a versatile mix of size and skill as he shapes the roster in Year One.
Jenkins brings more than depth; he fits the mold of a lead guard who can defend, attack gaps, and create tempo. If he can adapt quickly to Big 12 speed and physicality, he has a chance to make an impact right away. West Virginia fans looking for signs of momentum under Hodge now have a high-upside freshman to watch closely.
