The Tennessee Volunteers have been quite active in the NBA Draft in recent years under Rick Barnes. As recent as they've ever been, actually - at least in the current format. The Vols have had a player selected in the draft for five straight years, which is the longest streak since the current format was unveiled in 1989.
That appears set to continue in the 2026 NBA Draft as well. Five-star mega-signee in Nate Ament should almost certainly be a one-and-done for the Vols next season and head off to the NBA. In fact, ESPN's Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo project Ament to go fourth overall to the Charlotte Hornets in their way-too-early 2026 NBA mock draft.

This is what Givony had to say about Ament:
"A late bloomer, Ament has grown significantly in the past year, filling out his frame at 6-11.
He's a tremendous shotmaker; he has improved his passing and defensive versatility; and his ability to get a shot off almost at will gives him perhaps the highest upside of any prospect in this class. He'll be a focal point at Tennessee, allowing NBA teams to evaluate whether he can emerge as a consistently efficient, winning player in a challenging SEC."
Ament indeed will have the offensive skillset that not only should be "a" focal point for Barnes' offense in 2024, but rather "the" focal point. Ament is an anywhere scorer and his game should transition immediately to make him an impact player in the SEC.
Dalton Knecht parlayed his one year in Knoxville into becoming a first-round pick. Chaz Lanier has a great chance to stick in Detroit as the 37th overall pick this week. And Ament will almost certainly hear his name called early next year. And Vol fans hope that's after helping Tennessee take one step further than they did with their two previous one-year stars - to the Final Four.
