NCAA Bans Six MBB Players For Involvement In Betting Scandal

The NCAA announced on Friday that it has permanently banned six men’s basketball players for participating in gambling schemes that included game manipulation and sharing information with known sports bettors.

B.J. Freeman from Arizona State, Dae Dae Hunter, Dyquavian Short and Jamond Vincent from the University of New Orleans, and Donovan Sanders and Alvin Stredic from Mississippi Valley State are the six players being banned.

The three players from the University of New Orleans reportedly manipulated game outcomes during the 2024-25 season to lose games by more than the betting spread. The two Mississippi State players reportedly shared inside information about performance expectations to known gamblers.

The most notable name in the group is Freeman, a former Arizona State guard who averaged 13.7 points per game in the 2024-25 season. He was found to be sharing personal game information to a former teammate who was betting on Freeman’s performance.

The NCAA has permanently revoked the eligibility of all six players, but the schools will not be punished. The coaches and other teammates of all six players were reportedly unaware of what was happening.

Friday’s bans come at an important time as the NCAA continues to deal with increasing scrutiny regarding the impact that sports betting is having on college athletics.
