Nebraska Basketball trending for Wisconsin sharpshooter

Nebraska basketball has had a busy week, as they try to fill out the rest of their roster. They got a new prediction in their favor on Friday morning, as former Wisconsin shooting guard Connor Essegian was predicted to go to Nebraska basketball. The prediction was put in by On3’s Robin Washut.

Essegian a visit to Lincoln earlier this week, and also visited Indiana on Wednesday.

Essegian should be a name familiar to Nebraska basketball fans. The program hosted him earlier this week, and appear to be making him a top target. He averaged 3.2 points for the Badgers last season, and shot 38.5% from the field.

Essegian actually played at a high level when Nebraska took on Wisconsin in January, scoring 12 points off the bench in 12 minutes of play. He gave the Nebraska basketball defense fits all game long with his quick release.

Essegian shot 34.5% from beyond the arc in two seasons at Wisconsin. He actually had a better season in 2022-23. He averaged 11.7 points per game and shot 40.4% in 27 minutes of play. This would be a more accurate representation of what he is able to do as both a shooter and a volume scorer.

What could he bring to Nebraska basketball

Essegian would fill Nebraska’s need for a high-volume shooting guard. They already got  guards earlier this week in Gavin Griffiths and Rollie Worster, and now Essegian is just another different option at the guard position for Nebraska basketball.

One of thebiggest questions this offseason was how they were going to replace Keisei Tominaga in terms of scoring production. This is not completely the answer, but getting Essegian would certainly help.

It remains to be seen if he will commit to Nebraska basketball, but these are certainly positive trends. This would fill an immediate need, and put the program in a nice  spot after a wave of departures.
