The North Carolina Tar Heels made rough history on Selection Sunday, becoming the first AP preseason No. 1 to miss the NCAA Tournament entirely. The program then made it clear that it is absolutely done with basketball until the fall.
In a statement, UNC HC Hubert Davis completely dismissed the possibility of playing in the NIT while offering the old-as-time line about focusing on the future.

“Many factors go into postseason play and we believe now is the time to focus on moving ahead, preparing for next season and the opportunity to again compete for ACC and NCAA championships,” Davis said in the statement.
After their run to the title game last spring, expectations were high for North Carolina coming into the 2022-23 campaign. They instead struggled to a 20-13 record while finishing seventh in the ACC. This body of work was not enough for the Tar Heels to sneak into the NCAA Tournament as a low at-large seed.
