Ohio State football handed tough news at the hands of a rival Big Ten program the Buckeyes will see in 2026

The Buckeyes were in the mix to land a key 2026 pass rusher but he’s decided to commit to a rival Big Ten team over Ohio State, amongst other programs.

The Ohio State Buckeyes were in the mix to land one of the top pass rushers in the class of 2027, but instead lost out to one of their top rivals.

Ohio State already has top pass rusher D.J. Jacobs committed in the class of 2026, and was looking to add another key player at the position, who is also the teammate of Buckeyes LB commitment Quinton Cypher.

Oregon Ducks beat out Ohio State for four-star pass rusher

Ohio State was in the mix for Millbrook (NC) EDGE Rashad Streets, who announced his commitment to the Oregon Ducks on Friday. Streets committed to Oregon over the Buckeyes, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, and NC State.

Streets is a 6-foot-4, 230-pound pass rusher who is rated the No. 7 EDGE and No. 61 player nationally, per 247 Sports’ Composite. Ohio State was one of the schools recruiting Streets the hardest, so it’s a bit of a gut punch for him to choose the Ducks over Ohio State.

Ohio State originally offered Streets last June and will now need to look elsewhere in the class to add another pass rusher for the future. Jacobs remains in the class, but he’s the only EDGE committed out of Ohio State’s nine verbal commitments. According to 247 Sports, Ohio State has the No. 3-ranked class in the country.

Where does Ohio State turn?

The Buckeyes’ No. 1 priority for the EDGE position will be to keep Jacobs, the No. 1 player in 2027, in the class. Schools like Miami will continue to push for the five-star pass rusher and the Buckeyes will have to hold firm there.

Reinaldo Perez is more of a defensive tackle recruit, but could end up playing some EDGE, and he’s a four-star recruit right in the Columbus area. James Pace, Wyatt Smith, Mekai Brown, and Chris Whitehead are a few of the other top pass rushers the Buckeyes have offered.

It’s still early for the class of 2027, but Ohio State has work to do past Jacobs in its chase of at least two defensive end signings.
