The Ohio State Buckeyes have been plenty active in the transfer portal following a third straight missed NCAA Tournament.

Ohio State finished with a record of 17-15 and had four players exit via the portal after the season. G Meechie Johnson Jr., F Evan Mahaffey, and centers Austin Parks and Aaron Bradshaw all entered the portal.

On the flip side, the Buckeyes have brought in three transfers. G Gabe Cupps, C Christoph Tilly, and F Brandon Noel are all a part of the team now. Ohio State is still searching for transfer portal talent and their latest connection last played at North Carolina.

Ohio State showing interest in a North Carolina transfer

According to Jamie Shaw of On3, the Buckeyes have contacted UNC transfer F Cade Tyson, who spent last season with the Tar Heels after transferring from Belmont. In addition, Tyson has heard from other programs like Kentucky, Purdue, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Iowa.

Tyson is a 6-foot-7 forward and played in 31 games for North Carolina after transferring from Belmont. Tyson averaged 2.6 points and 1.1 rebounds per game in 7.9 minutes of action. Before landing at North Carolina, Tyson was a standout at Belmont.

During the 2023-24 season at Belmont, Tyson averaged 16.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting 47 percent from three-point range. As a freshman, the forward averaged 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while shooting 41 percent from deep.

Ohio State could use more wing-forward depth and Tyson would fit the bill. Despite not having a very productive year with the Tar Heels, a ton of major programs are still interested. It will be interesting to see if the Buckeyes can get him on campus for a visit.
