Oklahoma Basketball Loses Another Player to the Transfer Portal
USA TODAY Sports

After losing the eighth member of the 2022-23 Oklahoma basketball team, Porter Moser will have to reshape his entire roster in a hurry.

Jacob Groves is the latest member of the team to enter the portal after spending two seasons in Norman.

The 6-foot-9 forward played alongside his brother, Tanner Groves, who recently graduated and will move on from college basketball. Jacob, however, will now look for a spot to spend his last season.

Groves appeared in all 32 games last season, averaging 6.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. He averaged just 4.6 points in 17 minutes during the 2021-22 season, but found consistency in year two. He was one of Oklahoma’s most reliable outside shooters, converting on 38.1 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Groves began his career at Eastern Washington, where he averaged 9.3 points per game as a sophomore before arriving in Norman. Groves, who has played in at least 24 games in all four of his college seasons, will be a graduate transfer.

Groves joins a long list of players searching for a new school, including Bijan Cortes, CJ Noland, Benny Schroeder, Joe Bamisile and potentially Jalen Hill, who could opt to join the NBA Draft pool. Moser's roster will need a complete shakeup in 2023-24.
