The Oklahoma Sooners have to be feeling like proud parents right now when it comes to one of their former basketball players who played on the men's basketball team.
Jeremiah Fears, the former true freshman standout who was considered the best player on the team this last year, was drafted on Wednesday night in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft. Not only was he drafted, but he was also drafted in the top 10, going seventh overall to the New Orleans Pelicans.
I know, I know -- Sooners fans are quite that happy that he was drafted to New Orleans, considering the current state of that franchise and the history of it. But, at least he is close to Oklahoma, kind of. He's the next closest after the OKC Thunder and maybe the Memphis Grizzlies when you factor in the distance from Norman, Oklahoma, to New Orleans, Louisiana.
And, at least he was drafted high, because the higher you are drafted, the better your rookie contract. His being drafted seventh as opposed to 15th by the Thunder is a pretty recognizable gap in pay. And, at this point, it's about making money for what you do.
And Fears won't have that issue, especially after making a huge decision. It's been reported that Fears just inked a deal with Adidas.

“Three Stripes have been doing something special for a while now,” Fears told Nick DePaula. “The relationship they have with their guys, and potentially having a signature shoe in the future, was big."
The details of his contract are not out yet for both his rookie deal and his shoe deal, but because of who he is and how good he is predicted to be, he won't have an issue with money. Fears is making big decisions after the biggest night of his life.
Now, we all have to just sit back and watch him do his thing.
