On Saturday afternoon, Steve Lutz and the Oklahoma State Cowboys lost a key piece of their roster to the transfer portal, with junior guard Arturo Dean electing to go portaling.

Dean, a 5-foot-11 guard from Miami, Florida, joined the Cowboys after back-to-back impressive seasons with FIU.

In his junior season in Stillwater, Dean posted 7.6 points, 3.4 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game on 39.6% shooting from the field. He also connected on 27.5% of shots from three-point range and 68.8% from the free throw line.

Coming out of Putnam Science Academy in the Class of 2022, Dean was listed as an unranked prospect by most major recruiting services. Two seasons after committing to FIU, however, the Florida native jumped to a four-star prospect on the 247Sports index and the 196th-best player available.

The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, March 24, 2025. According to NCAA data, 1,296 FBS basketball players entered the transfer portal in the 2023-24 school year, with 864 (66.7%) undergraduates and 432 (33.3%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 70% reported that they enrolled in another school, 6% withdrew their names from the portal, and 23% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
