A new transfer portal target emerged at the end of the week for Michigan basketball. But just as soon as the Wolverines got in the mix with Wichita State guard Colby Rogers, he committed elsewhere.

Rogers was supposed to hold Zoom calls with Michigan basketball, Alabama, and Kansas. He was also expected to visit the Wolverines in Ann Arbor, which made you think they were trending up.

However, Rogers ended up committing to Memphis. It shows how quickly things can change in the transfer portal. Rodgers is a dynamic scorer and one of the best 3-point shooters in the country. He would have been a great fit but the Wolverines have plenty of other options.

Other targets on the board for Michigan basketball

Landing Johnell Davis should still be the top priority for the Wolverines, at least at guard. Vlad Goldin, Danny Wolf, and Trey Townsend all visited this weekend. They could be starting at 3-5 for Michigan baskeball.

Yet, the Wolverines need a point guard , a scoring combo guard, and depth everywhere. Head coach Dusty May’s system is built on the 3-point shot though and Rogers is one of the best.

Davis is dynamic too. He was the American co-Player of the Year for a reason after averaging 18 points per game last season. However, Davis is going to have legitimate NBA interest. He might not be available for U-M.

That makes guys like Roddy Gayle and Kolby King even more important. Michigan is expected to host both for visits, and either would be a quality piece, even if it hurts still to miss on Rogers, just due to his shooting ability.
