Pair of Mississippi State Basketball Players to Return For Next Season
USA TODAY Sports

Two veteran players for Mississippi State men's basketball will return next season, via Jon Rothstein on Twitter.

Senior Bulldog forward D.J. Jeffries told Rothstein this week that he will use his additional year of eligibility to return to school next season

Jeffries started his college career at Memphis before transferring to Mississippi State after two years with the Tigers. During the 2022-23 season, Jeffries averaged 8.8 points per game, along with 6.8 rebounds per game and 1.8 assists per game, while shooting 35.1% from the field.

In addition to Jeffries, Bulldog guard Deshawn Davis will also use his additional year of eligibility to return for the upcoming year.

A transfer from Oregon State, Davis averaged 8.7 points per game, 1.9 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game, while shooting 38.1% from the field for the Bulldogs during the 2022-23 season.

Jeffries and Davis join a list of players from a Bulldog team that reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. Bulldog center Tolu Smith will also be returning for next season.

Along with the veteran presence, Bulldog head coach Chris Jans has been building a talented roster around them. West Virginia transfer Jimmy Bell Jr. and Marshall transfer Andrew Taylor will be joining Jeffries next season, along with Bulldog commit Josh Hubbard.

This will be Jeffries' and Davis' final year of college eligibility. It will be interesting to see how the team will shape up as they look to improve on last season and potentially make a deeper tournament run.
