The Penn State basketball team needs to use the transfer portal to maintain its success for the upcoming season. If you think about it, the majority of the roster last season came from transfer portal additions. The 2024-2025 season might not look any different. Mike Rhoades has already added a key player in the most ex-Xavier center Kachi Nzeh. Now, the Nittany Lions are trending toward former Northern Kentucky guard Marques Warrick.
Mike Rhoades continues to wait for a decision from Penn State basketball guard Ace Baldwin. While he waits he needs to start proactively adding talent at the guard position. Now, it appears that the Nittany Lions have positioned themselves for potentially landing ex-Northern Kentucky SG Marques Warrick.
According to Joe Tipton of On3, Warrick is down to five schools, USC, Missouri, Cincinnati, Seaton Hall, and Penn State. The senior guard from Lexington, Kentucky was a zero-star recruit coming out of high school. But that didn’t stop him from making a name for himself over the past four years at Northern Kentucky.
This past season he averaged 19.9 points per game, 2.4 assists per game, and 2.5 rebounds per game. He was named 1st-Team All-Horizon after his performance on the hardwood. According to 247Sports, Warrick is the No. 13 SG in the transfer portal.

Adding Warrick would be huge for Penn State basketball. A player with four years of playing experience and someone who can score the ball. But if the Nittany Lions can secure Warrick and get Ace Baldwin to return to State College next season, now there’s a dynamic duo in the backcourt.
Baldwin can enter the NBA Draft, the transfer portal, or return to Penn State. Puff Johnson has already announced his return but will Baldwin join him?
