Purdue Men’s Basketball Signs Israeli Star Omer Mayer

The Purdue Boilermakers have landed Omer Mayer from Israel. Mayer is a highly touted basketball prospect who could help the Boilers make a championship run next season. On Wednesday, he told ESPN that he is excited for this opportunity. He also said, ” I’ve competed at the highest levels in Israel and Europe and can’t wait to help Purdue compete for a championship next season.” Fans of Purdue should be extremely excited for Mayer and what he brings to the Boilers.

Purdue Season Outlook

The Boilermakers will look to compete for a National Championship next season. Adding a young star like Mayer is huge. The 6-foot-4 point guard will look to develop next to Braden Smith, the best point guard in the country. This past weekend, Mayer took part in the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon. He had a strong showing in front of the Boilers and the other schools looking at Mayer over the weekend.

The schools Mayer turned down were Duke and Auburn. Mayer excelled in practices and dished out 7 assists in only 19 minutes. This is not the only major signing for the Boilers so far. They also added the top transfer in Oscar Cluff. The Boilers will be at the top of many preseason top 25 lists when they start to come out.

Final Thoughts

My final thought on this huge signing is the Boilers have a senior-led roster with the right pieces coming to help. Mayer may not get much playing time in his freshman season but he will bring a level of competition to elevate everyone. The Boilers have made at least the Sweet Sixteen the last two seasons making them a prime candidate to win a National Championship. The spring portal is still open, so the Boilers could add more talent to its roster. Stay tuned to Total Apex Sports for all the latest news.
