
Iowa started fast and controlled visiting Rider throughout Tuesday night's 83-58 victory at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes improved to 5-0, while the Broncs fell to 3-2.
Payton Sandfort (22 points), Owen Freeman (19), Seydou Traore (12) and Pryce Sandfort (11) scored in double figures for the winners. Payton Sandfort grabbed six rebounds, while Freeman, Traore and Pryce Sandfort each had five.
Iowa turned the ball over just eight times, while the Broncs had 20. The home team held a 20-4 advantage in points off turnovers.
The Hawkeyes took the visitors out of rhythm for much of the game by pressing. Even when they got it across the timeline in 10 seconds, they struggled in the half-court. They missed 15 of 16 three-point attempts.
Drew Thelwell handed out a team-high seven assists for the Hawkeyes, and he added five steals. Brock Harding had five assists and three steals.
Iowa returns to action on Friday night. It will face Utah State in Kansas City.
