Report: Doug Gottlieb is serious candidate for college basketball HC job
Doug Gottlieb. Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Longtime ESPN and Fox Sports analyst Doug Gottlieb may be in line to land a Division I head-coaching job.

Gottlieb is a serious candidate for the coaching vacancy at Green Bay, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. Green Bay is looking for a new coach after previous coach Sundance Wicks left to take over at Wyoming.

Gottlieb is a well-known figure to college basketball fans. After playing stints at Notre Dame and Oklahoma State, he became an ESPN analyst and also hosted several sports talk radio shows. He has since done similar work with CBS Sports before moving to his current home at Fox Sports.

As well-known as he is, Gottlieb has never actually coached collegiately and has very limited experience. He would still be a fairly prominent name and would presumably help attract more attention than a standard Horizon League program otherwise would.

At the very least, Gottlieb’s coaching career could not go much worse than his attempts at actual reporting did last year.
