WVU F Akok Akok (health) is ruled out by interim HC Josh Eilert, according to CBS insider Jon Rothstein. Akok has yet to return to the floor after his collapse in the second half during the George Mason charity exhibition game on Oct. 27.

Eilert was uncertain on his radio show if or when Akok would be able to play again this season as the Georgetown transfer continues to be tested on. For Akok personally, Eilert says things are heading in a positive direction.

Akok was admitted to Ruby Memorial Hospital after collapsing on the floor in the second half during the George Mason. Akok was on the court for about 13 minutes with the medical team before being stretchered out of the coliseum. According to teammate Quinn Slazinski, Akok was texting the team following their win. Eilert provided updates the following days mentioning that Akok was at home and was receiving treatment.

Akok is in his first season at West Virginia and his final year of college basketball. Akok transferred in from Georgetown and began his career at UConn.

West Virginia is still awaiting the waiver appeal decision by the NCAA on guard RaeQuan Battle. Battle’s initial waiver was denied on Oct. 23 but West Virginia Governor Jim Justice and Attorney General Patrick Morrisey have completed letters to NCAA President Charlie Baker to reconsider the decision. An answer on Battle is expected to come shortly.

WVU is also without guard Kerr Kriisa until Dec. 16 as he serves his nine-game suspension for receiving unauthorized benefits while enrolled at Arizona.
