One of the biggest points of weakness in John Calipari’s teams as of late has been the lack of physicality. When SEC play rolls around, Kentucky has been on the bad end of a physical beat down, more often than not. Kentucky has never really had a shortage of athleticism, but strength has been a touchy subject in recent years.

Whether it’s against the tough Tennessee Volunteers or the gritty Bruce Pearl-led Auburn Tigers, Kentucky has to be able to match their opponent’s physicality. Just like Ugonna Onyenso and Adou Thiero, however, Rob Dillingham has greatly benefited from the intense workouts from Kentucky’s new Strength & Conditioning Coach Brady Welsh.

Coming in at 6’1 and 155 pounds, Dillingham was clearly undersized entering his freshman season. While that never stopped guys like Tyler Ulis or even Sahvir Wheeler, Dillingham needed to add some size to reach his full potential. With the help of Welsh, he has done just that.

In an Instagram that Welsh posted on August 30th, you can see just how much work Dillingham has put in this offseason. According to the post, Dillingham is sitting at 172 lbs, meaning he has gained 17 total pounds since being at UK.

Just based on the transition pictures, it seems that almost all of that weight is in muscle:

Like his fellow teammates, Rob Dillingham has been working tirelessly to be his best self in his time at UK. The impact that Brady Welsh is having on this team is very evident, and it seems that he is motivating his guys to be as good as they possibly can be. When it’s time for the SEC and NCAA tournaments, hopefully, all of that additional strength can carry them to a title.
