Rutgers guard Caleb McConnell taking medical red shirt

Rutgers junior guard Caleb McConnell tweeted on Friday that he's taking a medical red shirt for the 2020-21 college basketball season held amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Across 31 games and 21 starts last season, McConnell averaged 6.7 points, 1.5 assists, and 3.7 rebounds.

Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), McConnell has dealt with multiple physical setbacks, including a back injury.

Rutgers held a 20-11 record when the NCAA canceled the remainder of the 2019-20 campaign in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
