Shaka Smart, Marquette land four-star guard Tre Norman

Norman chose Marquette over offers from Georgetown, Miami, Texas A&M and others. He joins Amadou and fast-riser Zaide Lowery, both top-150 players, in Marquette’s 2023 class.

Norman another playmaker for Marquette

Shaka Smart loves guard play, and MU has guards-a-plenty. Norman is the latest talent at Smart’s disposal. Norman will join Kam Jones, Chase Ross, Tyler Kolek, Sean Jones, Stevie Mitchell, Emarion Ellis and Lowery on the Marquette roster.

Smart loves tough, physical defenders, and Norman is touted as one of the best on-ball defenders in the 2023 class.

It’s hard not to be excited for what Smart has done on the recruiting trail. Also, expect Smart to do what he’s done at VCU and Texas: a lot of 3-guard lineups. Heck, four at times to up the pressure.

Why Norman chose Marquette

Norman stated Marquette was on him from the start, in an interview with On3.

“What made me choose Marquette was just how loyal they were from the beginning,” Norman said to On3. “They kept in contact with me. They never wavered and there weren’t any times when they stopped talking to me for a while. It was always consistent. The coaching staff connected with my family and stayed in contact with everybody, even my friends. They would talk to them on the phone. Marquette really separated themselves from other schools in the recruiting process.”

Future looking bright for Marquette

With Norman on board in 2023 with Abadou and Lowery, the MU 2023 recruiting class is now ranked 11th in the country. The 2023 class could be the most eagerly anticipated class in recent memory. One interesting tidbit about Norman signing is, Marquette has 14 scholarship players in 2023-24 with only 13 slots. Oliver Maxwell-Prosper, Oso Ighodaro or Ben Gold could pursue pro aspirations. Or someone could transfer.

Recruiting is about bringing in talent, and Smart has certainly done that with the 2023 class. It’s been some time since this kind of excitement surrounded Marquette on the recruiting trail. Norman is the latest talent to commit to Marquette. Smart is building a talented group, and Marquette fans are eager for some results in March. Norman could be the game-changer to help do that.
