Showdown with Marquette could be last time UConn needs to fly for a month

No. 2 UConn travels to face No. 8 Marquette on Wednesday night in both teams' penultimate regular season game.

The Huskies' (26-3, 16-2) plane ride to take on the Golden Eagles (22-7, 13-5) could be their last time needing to travel by air for an entire month, should they make another run to the Final Four.

Coach Dan Hurley's group will need to go only 50 miles for Saturday's road contest against Providence (19-11, 10-9) before next week's Big East Tournament, which takes place at Madison Square Garden. The Mecca of Basketball is just under 150 miles from the UConn campus.

The defending national champions are locked in for their fourth straight trip to the Big Dance, so they will be back in New York City for at least the opening round of March Madness. The NBA's Brooklyn Nets' home is approximately 150 miles from Storrs, Conn., where the Huskies call home.

If senior guard Tristen Newton and company can advance to the East Regionals, they'd have to take a bus less than 100 miles to their next destination, TD Garden in Boston.

This year, the Division I men's Final Four will be held from April 6 to 8 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

UConn is looking to become the first program since the 2006-07 Florida Gators to win back-to-back championships. On Sunday, the Huskies won their first outright Big East regular season crown since 1999.
