The son of one of the greatest NBA players ever is reportedly on the move as March Madness approaches its epic conclusion.
According to On3.com's Jamie Shaw, Shaqir O'Neal, son of Hall of Fame big man Shaquille O'Neal, has entered the transfer portal after spending this past season at Florida A&M.
O'Neal transferred to FAMU after beginning his college basketball career at Texas Southern where he played in 41 games for the Tigers and made two starts.
Shaqir has since found himself at A&M where he averaged career highs in points (6.7), rebounds (3.4), assists (0.8), blocks (0.6) and steals (0.5) — starting 17 games for Patrick Crarey II's Rattlers in the SWAC.
Now though the junior forward is looking for other opportunities outside of Tallahassee as he opens up another round of recruitment.
O'Neal was a three-star prospect coming out of high school at Union Grove in Georgia and McDonogh in Maryland.
His dad, who also serves as an analyst for TNT, recently signed a contract extension with the network worth a reported $15 million per year. But as the four-time NBA champ has regularly maintained, he still wants his kids to understand the value of working hard and earning a good education.
"My kids are older now. They're kind of upset with me — not really upset, but they don't understand," Shaq explained years ago. "We ain't rich. I'm rich. In order to get my cheese, you've got to present me with two degrees."
"Then if you want me to invest in one of your companies, you're gonna have to present it," the 53-year-old continued. "Boom, boom, boom. Bring it to me. I'll let you know."
Shaqir was also interested in Alabama State and Duke prior to signing with Texas Southern in 2021.
