The Kentucky Wildcats faced off against the Valparaiso Crusaders on Friday night at Rupp Arena, delivering an explosive offensive performance and maintaining their dominance throughout the game.
Freshman Malachi Moreno led Kentucky with 18 points and 10 rebounds, delivering a standout performance Friday night.
The biggest surprise of the season has been Moreno’s impressive start. The Lexington product is already making waves early in his career, achieving a double-double in just his second game.

Kid is good, folks.
Coming off the bench in his return to the lineup, Jaland Lowe wrapped up the night with six points, five assists, and two rebounds.

Lowe showed energy early, made some impressive passes, and looked sharp for his first game back since the shoulder injury he sustained during the Blue-White game in the preseason.

“That’s cool. They’re gonna talk, it’s a rivalry. You want that, that’s what makes it fun. By all means. I think we’ll save our chirping during the game, and… pic.twitter.com/qRtsJPAepq
Point guard play is crucial, and Kentucky needs all hands on deck after last season, in which the injury bug hit all season.
Fortunately, the team seems ready for the upcoming game against Louisville, a chance to be in the rivalry for the first time.
After the game, Mark Pope spoke with radio play-by-play announcer Tom Leach and mentioned that he would be starting jury duty on Saturday afternoon.
Pope also noted that he would need to call in to see if he gets assigned a case. Interesting timing, considering it’s the week before a rivalry game against the hated arch-nemesis, the Louisville Cardinals.
Pope quoted as saying: “I actually got a notice that I’ve got to go do jury duty. So it’s really true. I apparently have to call in starting tomorrow (Saturday) every day at 4:30 PM (ET) to see if I get assigned to jury duty, which is semi-inconvenient,” said Pope.
“But I do love this Commonwealth and I love this state and I want to do my part, so we’ll see how this goes.”
It’s a week away from one of the best rivalries in college basketball. We already have trash talk from the Cardinals side of the aisle with Louisville F Kasean Pryor making a quick statement on the game next week.
Louisville F Kasean Pryor has a loud message for Kentucky ahead of their Tuesday matchup
Time to rumble! This year’s Louisville-Kentucky game comes earlier than usual, shaking up the tradition of their typical Christmas-season clash.
Fans will need to adjust to the earlier schedule, but one thing remains the same—let the trash talk begin and the rivalry heat up for the week!
Kicking off the season with a 2-0 start and a week to prepare for Louisville is a solid beginning, but the real challenges lie ahead.
With Lowe returning to point guard and the potential addition of Jayden Quaintance, Kentucky is shaping up to have a formidable lineup moving forward.
Notably, the Wildcats had six players score in double figures tonight.
The second-year Collin Chandler, combined with the impressive freshman performance of Moreno and the evolving guard play, shows the team beginning to find its rhythm.
As they approach a tough stretch of games, Kentucky is gearing up to face challenges that will truly test them.
Next week at the Yum Center in Louisville, Kentucky—this is as good as it gets at this point in the season.
