This has not been a good month for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. After starting the season as the preseason No. 1, the Tar Heels quickly fell from the top 25. They made history on Selection Sunday but not the kind they were hoping for.

No sooner were they left out of the tournament they quickly declined any potential invitation to the NIT Tournament to the disappointment of many fans.

Now the hits just keep on coming for head coach Hubert Davis and his program. So far, little-used players Justin McCoy and Tyler Nickel announced they were entering the transfer portal. Today, another player from the Tar Heels’ bench added his name to those leaving Chapel Hill — Dontrez Styles.

Styles was a little used player but one that showed promise when he did get spot minutes. He also hit a massive shot in their title run just one year ago. He was often referred to as the most athletic player on the UNC roster and yet could not get minutes.
We can unpack what is happening in Chapel Hill as the story continues to unfold but for now, it appears that Davis and his staff have some work to do to replenish the roster for next season.
