Texas Basketball Might Just Have Another Star

Texas shooting guard Jordan Pope just shattered some records.

In the 98-62 victory over New Orleans, Pope went for a career-high 42 points, the second most points scored by a Longhorn in 28 years.

Of the 42 points, 24 of them came from beyond the arc, going 8-11 from deep. From the field, Pope shot 15-21 and went 4-5 from the free throw line.

The 42 points shattered Pope's previous career high of 31. The second most points scored by Pope in a game came from last season while the sophomore was playing at Oregon State in an 83-80 win over then No. 9 Arizona.

A big reason for the transfer's career-high numbers tonight comes off the injured Tre Johnson, who is dealing with a hip issue and is currently day to-day. Johnson missed the last game against Arkansas Pine-Bluff, and Pope went for what was then a season-high of 17 points.

As much of a career night it was for Jordan Pope, it was also a big night for head coach Rodney Terry. Terry has found light in the transfer portal this season, picking up three impact guys with not just Pope, but also forward Arthur Kaluma and guard Tramon Mark. All three started tonight for Terry's squad, and combined for 62 points, the same amount of points scored by New Orleans.

Texas now holds a 10-2 record with just one non-conference game left on the schedule. The horns will take a 10-day hiatus before hosting 4-6 N'Western State on December 29th.
