On Monday evening, things got sweeter for Texas Tech’s men’s basketball program as the Red Raiders agreed to a contract extension with Grant McCasland.
After back-to-back impressive seasons, the two parties agreed to an extension that keeps McCasland in Lubbock through the 2030-2031 season.

To put it lightly, Grant McCasland is a coach known for winning. When Indiana’s new football coach, Curt Cignetti, told a reporter to “Google him” at his introductory press conference in reference to his background, the same action could have been taken with McCasland.
The Red Raiders’ head coach has never had a losing record in his 16-year coaching career, which includes stops at Midland College, Midwestern State, Arkansas State, North Texas, and now at Texas Tech. He holds an overall record of 403-141, good for a winning percentage of .741.
The 2025-26 season is expected to be no different for McCasland, as he is expected to enter the year with a Preseason Top 10 team. Many experts, namely Jon Rothstein, have raved about the roster McCasland’s built in Lubbock, with the Red Raiders currently sitting at No. 9 in the Rothstein Preseason Top 45.
While the Big 12 Conference is expected to be one of the most competitive leagues in America yet again this season, McCasland has more than proved his ability to hang with the best of them, looking for a third-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
