The transfer portal flood gates open at UNLV after coach’s firing

It is being reported by UNLV on SI that there has been a mass exodus in the transfer portal following the firing of former coach Kevin Kruger.

Dedan Thomas, Jr has been the team’s biggest name that has opted for the transfer portal.

There are three other players who are headed in a similar direction as Thomas.

Harrison Gaines, the agent of guard Jaden Henley has announced that his client will be entering the transfer portal as well. After Dedan Thomas, Jr went down late in the regular season with a shoulder injury, Henley took the lead role on the team.

Losing Henley and Thomas will do a lot of damage to the program.

With the firing of Kruger and the possible departure of Thomas, those two events definitely had an impact of Henley’s choice.

It is a different feeling when just last week after a loss in the Mountain West Tournament, Henley said, “I think the biggest thing we can build on is the fight that we had day in and day out. We gave it our all, even in the huddles — DJ is hurt, and he’s still active in the huddle. Rob (Whaley) is active in the huddle. I think we can build on that family aspect and keep it going.”

Redshirt freshman James Evans has also announced his decision to transfer just mere hours after the announcement Kruger was fired. Junior Isaiah Cottrel has also made the decision to enter the transfer portal.

With a mass exodus of this proportion, it will make the UNLV head coaching job a harder task.
