The four-star sharpshooting wing, Billy White III is scheduled to visit the Hilltop in September as SMU basketball targets a key piece for its 2026 recruiting class.
A buzz is building in Dallas. One of the nation’s top high school basketball prospects is heading to the Hilltop, and SMU basketball is officially in the mix.
Billy White III, a four-star small forward in the Class of 2026, has scheduled an official visit to SMU for September 6–7, he confirmed to On3 Sports. The 6-foot-8 standout from Veterans Memorial High School in Texas is currently ranked No. 33 overall in On3’s Top-150 Player Rankings, a legitimate national prospect with elite upside.
White is no stranger to major attention. He’s already visited Tennessee and Texas A&M and holds offers from top-tier programs including Stanford, LSU, Texas, Ole Miss, and Maryland, among others. But now, SMU enters the spotlight, and not just as a local option, but as a serious contender.
“A big reason I get recruited is my shot-making ability at my size,” White told KSR recently. “I shoot the ball at an elite level, especially from the three-point line. I’m also a good positional guy… I rebound the ball pretty well and I have a high basketball IQ.”
SMU head coach Andy Enfield, who took over the program last year after his success at USC, is pushing to land a signature class to launch a new era in Dallas. While the Mustangs joined the ACC in 2024, adding a player of White’s caliber could be a game-changer for a program ready to establish its national presence.
White’s versatility, he can guard multiple positions, distribute off the bounce, and stretch the floor from deep fits perfectly with Enfield’s up-tempo, modern style. A high-IQ, high-upside forward who can create his own shot and defend across the board? That’s exactly what SMU needs as it enters a new, highly competitive landscape.
The September 6 date could signal the beginning of something big for SMU basketball.
