Top 25 roundup: CSU stuns No. 8 Creighton to win tourney

Isaiah Stevens scored 20 points and Colorado State put together its best defensive performance of the season to upset No. 8 Creighton 69-48 Thursday to win the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City, Mo.

Stevens added six rebounds and seven assists for the Rams (6-0), who were participating in the Hall of Fame Classic for the first time in program history. Rashaan Mbemba chipped in 13 points.

Meanwhile, the Bluejays (5-1) were seeking their third title after winning the event in 2002 and 2004.

But Creighton never found its rhythm against Colorado State, making just 17 of 61 (27.9 percent) shots overall, including just 6 of 29 (20.7 percent) from long range. Baylor Scheierman paced the Bluejays with 13 points, while Ryan Kalkbrenner supplied 12 to go along with seven rebounds.

No. 3 Arizona 74, No. 21 Michigan State 68

Keshad Johnson finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Caleb Love scored 17 points in the Wildcats' win over the Spartans in the Acrisure Classic at Thousand Palms, Calif.

The Spartans (3-3) did not make a field goal in the last 3:58, missing their last six shots, while Arizona (6-0) closed the game with an 11-2 run.

Tyson Walker, who averaged 23 points a game entering Thursday, returned after not playing against Alcorn State on Sunday at East Lansing, Mich., because of a cold. He finished with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists.

No. 12 Texas A&M 89, Penn State 77

Henry Coleman III scored a season-best 24 points and Wade Taylor IV tallied a season-high 23 as the Aggies defeated the Nittany Lions in the opening round of the ESPN Events Invitational in Kissimmee, Fla.

Tyrece Radford had 14 points for Texas A&M (5-0), which had a commanding 33-20 rebounding advantage. The Aggies will face No. 19 Florida Atlantic in the semifinal round.

Kanye Clary scored 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting and Puff Johnson added 15 points for Penn State (4-1). Ace Baldwin Jr. tallied 12 points for the Nittany Lions.

Villanova 83, No. 14 North Carolina 81 (OT)

Mark Armstrong's pair of free throws with 11 seconds left in overtime proved to be the difference as the Wildcats took down the Tar Heels 83-81 in the Battle 4 Atlantis semifinals in Paradise Island, Bahamas.

Armstrong scored 10 points for Villanova (5-1), but the Wildcats were really powered by Eric Dixon's 34 points and 10 rebounds. Justin Moore added 16 points as Villanova handed the Tar Heels (4-1) their first loss. Villanova advanced to face Memphis in the tournament's championship game.

For North Carolina, RJ Davis had 23 points, Harrison Ingram scored 20 and Cormac Ryan -- who was helped off the floor with an apparent foot injury late in overtime -- tallied 18. Armando Bacot grabbed 18 rebounds and scored eight points. North Carolina will play No. 20 Arkansas in the third-place game.

No. 19 Florida Atlantic 91, Butler 86

Vladislav Goldin recorded a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Johnell Davis scored 15 as the Owls held off the upset-minded Bulldogs in the quarterfinal round of the ESPN Events Invitational in Kissimmee, Fla.

Jalen Gaffney finished with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting for Florida Atlantic (3-1). His biggest shot was a 3-pointer that gave the Owls an 81-77 lead and a bit of breathing room with 4:30 remaining.

Jahmyl Telfort was one of five players in double figures for Butler (3-2), scoring 19, with Pierre Brooks adding 13. The Bulldogs will play Penn State in a consolation semifinal on Friday.

Memphis 84, No. 20 Arkansas 79

Fourth-year wing David Jones poured in a career-high 36 points to lead the Tigers to a victory over the Razorbacks in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis at Paradise Island, Bahamas.

Jones canned 10 of 14 field-goal attempts and 12 of 14 free throws while adding five steals as the Tigers (5-0) advanced to Friday's championship game. Nick Jourdain contributed 12 points and Jaykwon Walton had 11 as Memphis won its first meeting with Arkansas since Jan. 3, 2003.

Khalif Battle posted 21 points to lead four scorers in double figures for the Razorbacks (4-2), who move on to Friday's third-place game. Davonte Davis notched 15 points and Trevon Brazile recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds.

No. 23 Southern California 71, Seton Hall 63

Joshua Morgan blocked a career-high 10 shots to key a tough defensive effort, Boogie Ellis scored a game-high 22 points and the Trojans held off the Pirates in the semifinals of the Rady Children's Invitational in San Diego.

Kobe Johnson had five steals and Isaiah Collier added three steals for USC. Collier finished with 15 points and Johnson chipped in 13 points in the win. The Trojans will face Oklahoma, the winner of the other semifinal, in Friday's championship game.

Kadary Richmond led Seton Hall with 18 points, Dre Davis added 15 points and Jaden Bediako chipped in 12. The Pirates will meet Iowa in a consolation game Friday.
