Top Chinese NBA prospect Fanbo Zeng picks G League Ignite over Gonzaga

Top Chinese basketball prospect Fanbo Zeng is de-committing from Gonzaga and joining the NBA G League Ignite, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Zeng committed to Gonzaga last fall, but the departure of Tommy Lloyd, who recruited him and later agreed to become the new head coach at Arizona, played a "major role" in his decision to play in the G League instead, Charania adds.

The 6-foot-10 forward will be eligible for the NBA Draft in 2022. After arriving from China in 2017, Zeng played high school basketball at Windermere Prep in Florida. During the 2019-20 season, he averaged 15.5 points, 2.1 assists and 7.2 rebounds per game, according to MaxPreps.

Zeng becomes the second elite prep prospect this week to commit to the Ignite, joining five-star forward Michael Foster.
