The NCAA transfer portal continues to reshape college basketball rosters across the country. While the changes have brought both challenges and opportunities for programs, one thing is certain: it’s kept the sport in the headlines year-round.
The latest news features a standout guard moving from the Big East to the SEC.
Pop Isaacs, a talented and dynamic backcourt presence, is expected to make an immediate impact at his new school. What makes the move even more intriguing is that Isaacs was originally committed to transferring to Kelvin Sampson's Houston Cougars.
On3 Sports broke the news Tuesday morning with a report from Pete Nakos.
"Creighton transfer guard Pop Isaacs has signed with Texas A&M, Pete Nakos reports."
Many speculate that Isaacs changed his decision after Jeff Goodman of Field of 68 reported that Houston point guard Milos Uzan withdrew from the NBA Draft and would return to the Cougars for another season.
That announcement may have influenced Isaacs' decision to pivot from Houston to College Station.
Isaacs is a 6-foot-2 guard from Las Vegas who has played three seasons of college basketball. Last season at Creighton, he appeared in just eight games before undergoing hip surgery that sidelined him for the remainder of the year. Despite the shortened season, Isaacs showed his potential by averaging 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
His final appearance for the Bluejays was a standout performance. In a 76-63 win over Kansas, Isaacs played 39 minutes, scored 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Isaacs will now play for first-year Texas A&M head coach Bucky McMillan. McMillan spent five seasons at Samford from 2020 to 2025, compiling a 99-52 record and earning Southern Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2022.
In the 2023-24 season, he led Samford to the NCAA Tournament before accepting a position in College Station. He replaced Buzz Williams, who left Texas A&M to become the head coach at Maryland.
Isaacs joins a busy transfer class under McMillan, which includes Rylan Griffen, Zach Clemence, Jacari Lane, Rashaun Agee, Federiko Federiko, Jamie Vinson, Josh Holloway, Mackenzie Mgbako and Marcus Hill.
With this influx of talent, the Aggies are looking to compete immediately in a deep SEC.
