Tyson Walker has some lofty personal and team goals for Michigan State this upcoming season, including a national title.

Tyson Walker is one of the best college basketball players in America right now.

The senior guard is entering his final season with Michigan State and he’s expected to be an All-American candidate and he’s also a preseason All-Big Ten selection. But that’s not going to make him happy.

No, what will make him happy would be Michigan State winning the national title and him finishing his career as a Spartan great with his jersey in the rafters next to the other MSU legends.

Walker told the Big Ten Network that he has some truly lofty goals for the upcoming season.

“Maybe if we win a national championship maybe my jersey can be in the rafters.”

There was no expression on Tom Izzo’s face after this statement because he doesn’t like talking about titles before the season. He does, however, believe in Walker and he knows that his senior guard could be one of the legends if the Spartans can win it all.

Heck, the same could be said for AJ Hoggard, too.

This team has some lofty goals and it’s great to have confident leaders like Walker and Hoggard leading the way. Izzo’s comments about having leadership concerns for this year’s team seemed to be the perfect nudge to get these guys all on the same page. That was a classic Izzo tactic to make this team hungrier and more player-coached. It seems to be working.

Walker and Hoggard make up one of the best backcourts in the country and both are great leaders. And behind them, waiting in the wings, is freshman Jeremy Fears who Izzo has compared to Mateen Cleaves. Leadership won’t be a problem this season.

And if Walker has it his way, that’s going to lead to a national title and his jersey in the Breslin Center rafters.
