Hubert Davis has his sights set on a trio of top-10 stars that could define UNC basketball’s 2026 recruiting class.
Jordan Smith Jr., Anthony Thompson, and Caleb Holt are each ranked inside On3’s top 10 for the 2026 cycle—and all three have caught the attention of the Tar Heels’ coaching staff during the spring live periods.
Smith, a 6-foot-2 guard from Paul VI (VA), is currently ranked No. 4 nationally and carries nearly 30 Power 5 offers.
“Smith tells me that he has already taken official visits to Duke, Louisville, Georgetown, and Syracuse,” On3’s Jamie Shaw reported. “Hubert Davis made it a point to watch Smith play with his Team Takeover program at the EYBL’s Live Period in Memphis.” Smith also plans to visit Kentucky and Arkansas, with a decision likely after Peach Jam this fall.
Caleb Holt, a 6-foot-5 wing out of Grayson High in Georgia, has also drawn UNC’s attention.
“Holt has taken an official visit to Ole Miss, his only one so far,” Shaw said. “UNC did sit courtside for his Game Elite game on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit this past weekend.” Holt holds a UNC offer, though no official visit is scheduled yet.
Then there’s Anthony Thompson, a 6-foot-8 forward from Western Reserve Academy (OH), ranked No. 5 in the class.
“Thompson recently released his top 15 schools, a list that UNC made,” Shaw noted. “Getting Thompson on campus would be the next step. I am told that he plans to sign during the early period.”
If UNC can land just one of these blue-chip names, it would mark a major win. Landing two—or all three—could vault the 2026 class toward No. 1 territory.
