Before Tuesday, no UNC basketball player had taken home ACC Player of the Week accolades multiple times in a season since Joel Berry II did so four times for the 2016-17 national champions. That could be a good sign for these ninth-ranked Tar Heels (8-3, 1-0 ACC), as senior guard RJ Davis is now a two-time winner of the award.

Davis wore the crown four weeks ago — alongside Florida State redshirt junior forward Jamir Watkins — due to his stellar performances at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.

This go-round, he earned the distinction via his 23 points, including several clutch buckets, plus four rebounds, five assists, three steals, and zero turnovers in Wednesday night's 81-69 victory over then-No. 7 Oklahoma at the Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte. It marked his seventh straight contest with 23 points or more.

He shares the Week 7 honor with Virginia Tech senior center Lynn Kidd.

Davis is one of two Tar Heels to become ACC Player of the Week this season. Graduate big man Armando Bacot did so in the first week.

UNC is the only squad in the conference this season with two winners of the award or one two-time winner.

The 22-year-old Davis, a former four-star from New York, is leading the UNC basketball team with his career-high 21.7 points per game. He's shooting a career-best 38.1 from three and 94.6 percent at the foul line.

RJ Davis and the Tar Heels are gearing up for their final non-conference bout of the regular season: versus unranked Charleston Southern in the Dean E. Smith Center at 8 p.m. ET Friday (ACC Network).
