A couple of major college basketball programs made headlines Monday with activity in the transfer portal.
One player, a former five-star recruit, spent just his freshman season with one of the most storied programs in college basketball.
The biggest news came from Ian Jackson's decision on Monday. Jackson committed to play for Rick Pitino and the St. John's Red Storm.
Upon the release of the news, Seth Trimble, who had originally entered the transfer portal but reversed his pledge and will return to Chapel Hill, had a message for Jackson.
Trimble commented: "timeeeeee let’s get it my boy".
Jackson made his way to North Carolina from New York. Therefore, a return to the Big Apple is no surprise. He played high school basketball at Our Saviour Lutheran in the Bronx.
During his lone season with the Tar Heels, Jackson scored 11.9 points per game. He played 23.8 minutes with the Tar Heels.
In his final game, he played just 10 minutes and scored a single point in the 71-64 loss to Ole Miss.
Jackson will look to keep the rebuild of the St. John's program rolling. Rick Pitino led them to the second round of the NCAA Tournament this past season, and they finished with a 31-5 record. The Red Storm finished at the top of the Big East Conference.
St. John's has made a big splash in the transfer portal this offseason. Bryce Hopkins was one of the first to come to St. John's.
He transferred from Providence. Shooting guard Joson Sanon from Arizona State, along with Oziyah Sellers from Stanford, should also see time in the backcourt for the Red Storm after transferring to the program.
