USC HC Andy Enfield signs contract extension through 2027-28 season

The USC men's basketball team reached the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight last season for just the second time in 67 years. The Trojans posted a program-record 25 victories during the 2021-2022 regular season.

On Wednesday — the eve of the teams' Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinal contest — USC decided to reward its head coach for that success.

Enfield is in his ninth campaign at the helm of the Trojans, and after struggling to a 11-21 mark in his debut 2013-14 season (2-16 conference record) and 12-20 (3-15) record the next year, USC turned it around with three straight 20-win seasons and two NCAA Tournament appearances. The squad dropped to 16-17 (8-10) in 2018-2019 before bouncing back to finish 22-9 (11-7) two seasons ago.

Last year, the Trojans went 25-8 (15-5) and were ranked as high as 17th in the AP men's basketball poll, finished the season as the No. 24 team, and it was the first time in 14 years that they wrapped the campaign as a top-25 team. Behind now-NBA Rookie of the Year contender Evan Mobley, USC entered "March Madness" one year ago as a No. 6 seed and defeated No. 11 Drake, No. 3 Kansas and No. 7 Oregon (all by double digits), before falling to eventual national runner-up No. 1 Gonzaga in the Regional Final.

"I am so proud of the success our players have had on the court and academically. I want to thank President Carol Folt, Mike Bohn, Brandon Sosna and Paul Perrier for their support. Their impact on our program has been significant. I also want to acknowledge how fortunate I am to be surrounded by outstanding coaches and staff, and would like to recognize our fans and students because their enthusiasm and energy have been tremendous assets," Enfield said. "My family and I are very happy to be part of the Trojan Family. I feel great about the future of USC basketball in the Pac-12 and nationally."

Following their 25-6 (14-6) regular season, the Trojans are currently the No. 21 team in the nation. Enfield earned the Pac-12 Coach of the Year Award last year, becoming the first USC coach to capture the honor since 1992.

Per USCTrojans.com, Enfield's five-game winning streak over crosstown rival UCLA was USC's longest versus the Bruins since 1943. The 52-year-old coached Florida Gulf Coast for two seasons prior to moving west and led them to a shocking Sweet 16 run as a No. 15 seed in 2013.

Enfield holds a 223-144 career coaching record. The Trojans are seeded third heading into Thursday's conference quarterfinal game.
