The Utah Utes had a disappointing 2024 college basketball campaign, finishing 16-17, which concluded with a first round loss in the brand new College Basketball Crown tournament.
Senior guard Gabe Madsen was far and away their best offensive weapon, averaging 15.2 points per game and could shoot from anywhere on the court.
The transfer portal, however, is where Utah claims some unfortunate news as they enter the offseason prior to the 2025 season.
Mike Sharavjamts, their 6-foot-9 junior point guard, has entered the transfer portal, where he will play for his fourth team in four seasons after previously attending Dayton and the University of San Francisco.
He will now be one of the highest ranked transfer portal targets, coming into college as a four star and keeping that status as a transfer, according to 247Sports.
We are witnesses to a crazy era in college basketball, with the transfer portal making significant impacts to teams in a great way.
Some of the biggest transfers ever, Johni Broome of Auburn and Walter Clayton Jr. of Florida, have shown that surrounding your team with experience provides a big benefit, and would not be surprised to see a big school take a swing at Sharavjamts.
For the Runnin' Utes, they have some work to do this offseason. They currently have one unranked recruit coming in, as well as a four-star transfer from Fairleigh Dickinson Terrence Brown.
They will need to make another splash or two in the transfer portal in hopes to make it to the NCAA Tournament and go on a run in the Big 12 next season.
