The UTSA Roadrunners put together a solid 2023 campaign. Overall, the team went 8-4 but they went 7-1 in the conference. As with so many smaller programs, the transfer portal can often steal talent away. The Roadrunners are dealing with that in the offseason. Star defensive edge and AAC Defensive Player of the Year Trey Moore has reportedly entered the transfer portal.

UTSA Roadrunners Edge Trey Moore Enters Transfer Portal

Moore had a fabulous season for the Roadrunners and was a headache for opposing offenses. He set a school record with 14 sacks on the season which is also tied for first in all of college football. Add in 17 tackles for loss, an interception, and three passes deflected and it is easy to see why Moore was one of the best edge rushers in college football despite playing in the AAC. He gets an opportunity to move to a bigger program and show off his skills on a more national stage.

Benefit Of The Transfer Portal

This stinks for the smaller programs like UTSA. There is no denying that. However, this is great for players like Moore. He was probably not earning a lot of money and would likely have flown under the radar of many NFL scouts. Now, he gets a chance to get a lucrative NIL deal and have more eyeballs on his game. There isn’t a program in the country that doesn’t need another pass rusher. I’m sure that many teams will be eyeing him to try and shut down the many dynamic quarterbacks that are under center every Saturday.

It was a great season by Moore and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. Hopefully, he can dominate just as much as he did this year and get more national recognition for his skills.
