Washington St. runs win streak to 7 by knocking off Stanford

Isaac Jones and Jaylen Wells led a balanced attack with 15 points apiece as Washington State won its seventh consecutive game, defeating Stanford 72-59 in Pac-12 Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Pullman, Wash.

Myles Rice scored 14 points and Andrej Jakimovski had 13 for the Cougars (20-6, 11-4 Pac-12). Oscar Cluff added eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds as Washington State had a 37-21 edge on the boards.

Brandon Angel led Stanford (12-13, 7-8) with 15 points. Kanaan Carlyle and Michael Jones each added 12 for the Cardinal, who lost for the fourth time in their past five games.

Stanford matched its biggest lead of the game, going up 47-42 early in second half, before Rice scored eight consecutive points -- on back-to-back 3-pointers and two free throws -- to put Washington State ahead 50-47 with 13:36 remaining.

After the Cardinal regained the lead at 53-52, the Cougars went on a decisive 11-0 run while holding the visitors scoreless for 6:43. Jakimovski sparked the surge with a 3-pointer, then Isaac Jones and Cluff scored inside, Rice banked in a runner and Isaac Jones capped the spurt with a thunderous dunk off a pass from Wells.

The Cardinal, led by Angel's 10 points, took a 36-35 lead into the break after a back-and-forth first half.

Stanford made its first three shots from the field to take a 7-2 lead.

The Cougars responded with a 7-0 run to take their first lead, with Isaac Jones scoring five points during the rally.

Washington State extended the margin to 10 points, 21-11, on two free throws from Rice with 9:56 left in the half.

Trailing 26-16, Stanford went on a 7-0 streak sparked by a 3-pointer and second-chance layup by Angel.

The Cardinal tied the score at 31-all on a three-point play by Angel with 2:22 left.

A 3-pointer by Spencer Jones gave the Cardinal their first lead in over 13 minutes and, following a Washington State basket, Benny Gealer made a driving layup to close the half.
